Yes, Yes, it is my shame :-(
I know, being a male, especially a brotha and a Marine, I’m supposed to have all kind of stats about Basketball, Football, etc., etc.
Fact is aside from being a San Francisco 49’ers fan (meaning that I root for the team, watch a game here and there, and talk crap to the Dallas Fans for shear enjoyment if my boys beat them) and aside from having been a Michael Jordan fan (as required of any citizen of Chicago), I generally am clueless.
This is a serious handicap people. Sure, I have the wisdom of Zehuti (As per the Wizard SHAZAM for all of his chosen champions), Heck, I can discuss world affairs, theology, sociology, philosophy, world history, etc. with the best of them (in fact, I hope to become that annoying guy on PBS that they call to pontificate about ancient civilizations and how they would have endured if they had the internet) but ask me whose the best college football player, and I have no choice but to nod my head and act like I know and actually be very silent (which is very unusual for me if you couldn’t tell).
Today my boss asked me about the Bulls chances to make the finals, I just a few seconds earlier listening to NPR found out that they were in the finals, just said “Yeah, this could be their year”, then he went on about stats about people I hadn’t even heard of, yesh. All I could say was that “John Paxon has really done a good job” (Since I knew who HE was from the Jordan days and also had just heard on NPR that he was GM, thank good for public radio!). So after I acted like a client was holding for me, I tipped away.
Help a brotha out people, is there a book I can get? Does ESPN have a blog I can peak at? Suggestions? Heck, when we get to Liberia I’m going to have to appoint a Secretary of Sports to keep me up to speed with the World Cup!
