O.K., we are in a serious recession, people have been losing jobs up the Yin Yang, most of this caused by greed and materialism: the greed of coprorations, the materialism of the American consumers and what does a prominent GOP leader start yaking about? "My grandmother was not a highly educated woman, but she told me as a small child to quit feeding stray animals. You know why? Because they breed! You're facilitating the problem if you give an animal or a person ample food supply. They will reproduce, especially ones that don't think too much further than that."
Oy veh. Now I would suggest that no Christian who happens to be "Conservative" or Republican to NOT try to vindicate this statement. This statement is in direct ocntradiction to Jesus' teaching regarding the issue. When Jesus feed the masses,he didn't liken them to stray animals...Just saying...
I would not dream of vindicating such a statement, but not because I am not compassionate, but because I doubt that that was what was said. It is presumptuous and ridiculous to assume that Republicans have absolutely no compassion for the poor. Just because we do not think the solution is to throw money into the black hole of gov't bureaucracy, doesn't mean the compassion is not there. Our conservative church just raised $800 in one Sunday for Haitian relief. We did it ourselves; we did not rely on gov't to do it through confiscatory taxes. So put that in your
pipe and smoke it!

Slow your roll Chris, I am not saying that every individual GOP member has no heart for the poor, I am saying the party platform and the overall attitude of the conservatives is not compasionate to the poor, workers, consumers, etc., etc. AND this is no defense of the LEFT, as I feel that they are every bit as bad for the poor, for different reasons.

It's been a while since I've been here, so I apologize for the late comment here...
Being a conservative from SC, Bauer's comments are embarrassing. When he tried to explain things, he made them worse.
