Story HERE. “YOU LIE” said Rep. Joe Wilson as President Barack Obama countered some of the rhetoric and fear mongering that has been coming from the Right since this Health Care / Health Insurance reform initiative began.
Both sides of the aisle were apparently flabbergasted by this silly sophomoric and inane outburst. Though I am sure I can find some conservative blogger or pundit somewhere who is defending Rep. Wilson's outburst, I do acknowledge that many have denounced it, as well The congressman has apologized.
So what is your problem DJ Black Adam? My problem is this, the fact that this congressman felt he COULD shout "YOU LIE" to the President of the United States as he addressed Congress, obviously expecting the backing of his "people" his "party".
This exemplifies the atmosphere that the fear mongering and underhanded race baiting that has been fostered by the Right by people like Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, etc.
The other problem was the Rights response to the Speech itself: Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.)."At times, I found his tone to be overly combative and believe he behaved in a manner beneath the dignity of the office. I fear his speech tonight has made it more difficult — not less — to find common ground."
Let me translate what THAT really meant. How dare this guy pull our card. Seriously, the President has definately NOT acting ine any manner "beneath" his office, and the Republicans haven't tried to fidn "common ground", all they have been doing and continue to do is to try to protect the status quo in Health Insurance as opposed to bring any reasonable alternatives to the for.
Heres another response from the Right: Rep. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), who is running for Obama's old Senate seat, said, "He talked at us. He didn't listen to us... It was a missed opportunity."
No congressman, YOU missed the oppritunity. For the last few months you all have done nothing to advance any meaningful or useful change, again, you defendeded a status quo that is failing many Americans, Americans who work hard every day, pay taxes, and keep this country running.
The Right has let itself be defined by this mentality during and after the election. I challenge my former party to TRY to act adult in disagreement and for once and for all call out people like Joe Wilson. Maybe then I can join the party again and apply some of it's principles to government if I ever choose to run….just saying…
The President's problem is not Joe Wilson nor any other Republican members of Congress. He doesn't need them. The Democrats don't need a single Republican vote to pass this monstrosity that is the current health care bill. Obama's problem is that the American people don't want this. Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity nor any other commenter from the right could not generate the backlash he and the Democrats in Congress are experiencing.
Oh, and BTW, if the President was not lying when he stated that this bill would not cover illegal immigrants, why was the Republican sponsored amendment explicitly denying coverage to illegal immigrants shot down by the Democrats? Hmmm?

I'm a total believer in hittin' 'em where it counts, so I was pleased to read this:
"...Beyond criticism and a swift apology, the incident has already provided a fundraising bonanza for Wilson's opponent, Rob Miller, a Democrat and Marine Corps veteran.
Miller raised over $50,000 in just a few hours after Wilson's outburst, after activists and small donors flooded his page on ActBlue. Bloggers and readers at Daily Kos, a popular liberal blog, also used the site to instantly create a dedicated fundraising page highlighting the incident. The portal, titled "Defeating the man who yelled 'liar' at Obama: Goodbye Rep Joe Wilson," has already raised $35,000 for Wilson from over 1,050 individual donors."

I'm kinda dismayed that Joe Wilson is getting more attention in the media than Obama's speech. Still, if it helps damage the GOP it can't be all bad.

Bad Andy? Long time no hear from man, glad you have commented, I enjoy your opinions even if I don't share them sometimes.
BA, Fact is, the Republican party IS the problem with this health care issue. Thety have been forwarding misinformation, shouting socialism while ignoring the real definition of the word.
I have been real disapointed with the right lately, intellectual fraudulent false dichotomies is what they have been majoring in.
Just because the President's reforms doesn't include Ilegal aliens doesn't mean that they WON'T be covered otherwise, and as well they should have basic coverage as a humanitarian necessity.
The president didn't lie, but HIM LYING isn't the issue, the issue is the disrespect he recieved from that moron Joe Wilson

Bad Andy --
Not surprisingly, you completely missed the point of this post, but, just to give you a little info: There is a segment of the bill that explicitly denies coverage to those in this country illegally. Any amendments pushed by the Thugs didn't need to be passed because wording in the actual bill is already there. Did you even go to Factcheck.org before spewing? Hmmmmm?

DJBA,
It has been a long time. Backatcha (about the opinions). We've always had lively & civil disagreements.
First of all, when the president used the phrase "the reforms I'm proposing," no one really knows whether he's talking about H.R. 3200 or something else. It is intentionally vague. Second, while H.R. 3200 does contain one provision in one section that forbids "federal payments for affordability credits" to illegal immigrants, that is not even close to the same thing as saying that the reform proposals will not "insure illegal immigrants." The Congressional Research Service concluded that there would be no restrictions on illegal aliens buying the government option.
Joe Wilson's outburst is really no big deal. Is it that he called the president a liar? I guess Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Charles Rangel and countless other Democrats calling George W. Bush a liar repeatedly for the last eight years was OK. I guess the heckles Bush got in his address to Congress when he spoke of social security reform was totally different. Sorry, but the worst you can say about the right is that they are giving this president the same respect his predecessor got from the left.
