Should there be mercy for the surviving Somali pirate?

 

I say YES. Why? The question is WHY NOT?

Here is a little about this pirate from this article: "At home in central Somalia, Abdiwali Abdiqadir Muse studied English, frequented a dusty, outdoor cinema after school where he watched Bollywood films dubbed into his native Somali and, his mother says, 'was wise beyond his years.'"

All I can say, is he wasn't THAT wise to attack ANY SHIP flying the colors of the United States of America, maybe he should have watched a few Clint Eastwood movies at that outdoor cinema to see we Americans don't take to kindly to certain things.

In any case, I don't think this young man deserves life in prison. At most I think the kid should get 5 - 20 years depending, and a one way ticket back to Somalia which by that time (if we do what I suggested in my earlier post about Somalia) is a place where he has a few more positive choice before him. However, politics dictate that this young man get a stiff sentance to serve as a warning to other future pirates.
