As some of you know, I am a Christian, as some of you also know, I am not opposed to civil unions between consenting adults or overly concerned if that is called marriage or not. That being said, Miss California who was competing for Miss America said (from THIS ARTICLE):
“We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite. And you know what, I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman,” she responded during the televised event. “No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised."
Now, even if I don't agree with her, shouldn't we want people to say how they really feel? Further, Perez Hilton stated (from the same ARTICLE):
“She lost not because she doesn’t believe in gay marriage. Miss California lost because she is a dumb [expletive].”
OK, TIME OUT. One, WHY was the question even a question for this pageant? Seriously. Two, now the RIGHT is empowered, the freedom of speech left seem to be punishing someone for practicing "their" freedom of speech. She becomes the poster child for how the RIGHT feels the LEFT is, that being people who want to take away their rights, specifically the right of freedom of expression and freedom of speech, freedom to DISAGREE with what the left thinks.
Don't get me wrong, I feel if you are against gay marriage, simply don't marry a gay person, not hard. However; by attacking this young lady, all the left has done is fuel the fire of the opposition. Just saying....
As if the right NEVER attcks the left for the very same reason? Perez Hilton is NOT a voice or even recognized spokesperson for the GLBT movement. Just because he appears to be gay doesn't necessarily make him the poster child for all things gay.
Ms. California is entitled to her opinion no matter how homophobic that opinion is. However, what she believes in her family, has nothing to do with what is just and right. In Ms. California's country, miscegination, segregation, sexism, and slavery were all at one point legal DESPITE the fact that each instution and law was diametrically opposed to the principle of equality and freedom upon which her country was founded.
If she has the cajones to step up and state her views and convictions with confidence, then she must also have the cajones to defend them and be ready to be attacked for them.
What Pere Hilton is doing is no different that what Rush, Glen, Dobson, or any other conservative leader who is often lauded by the groups they represent for being guardians for the values. What makes Perez different from these people is that folks know that Perez is a gossip columnist and a sh-- starter. Although the others I've mentioned are the same, they are still given broader credibility because of the media and organizations or phlosophies they are attached to.
One more thing, contrary to what heterosexual people believe, there is more to the LGBT movement than marriage.

Who thinks Rush or Dobson have any "credibility"? I know they have some right wing nuts who hang on their every word, but who else?
My point was not to the legality of the issue, or it being "central" to the LGBT Community, HOWEVER, it does signify the primary issue that is being discussed in their regard.
Since prop 8, California has been at the center of this thing, perhaps that's why Miss California git that question, I'm just saying, the right seem sto do best when they play the victim in ANY Issue, why give them that position?

1st of all Perez is an uneducated as bitch with a partially entertaining blog. After his gastric bypass, he really started feeling himself. Honestly, I don't that anyone in the GLBT see him as any type of qualified leader or spokesman.
Personally, Im all of rgay marriage. We all deserve the same rights. If there was a God, would he be more concerned with ending wars, fucked up diseases etc vs. who's fucking & eating who? Im mean for real.
With all this said, people need to back up off Ms CA. She has a voice, opinion & right to speak her mind like we all do. I dont agree with her but I respect her for making her position known.
Im just saying!
Stepping off drunken soapbox now.
