Yes, Yes, Yes. I have found out where people like Hannity and Limbaugh come from. Remember in grade school, those kids who would hog all the blocks? Or the kids who would have the 64 box of Crayola crayons and got offended when the teacher even just suggested that they allow the poor kid in the class who had no crayons to use their crayons or at least the 63 crayons they weren't using?
Well, that's who our President, Barack Obama, is now going have to deal with. Stingy selfhish and in some cases out right silly people.
Let me be clear, I can agree with alot of what the right has to say, as I agree with some things that the left have to say. BUT, where I strongly divide from the Right, is this issue of healthcare reform.
First, they always give the false dichotomy of either this situation we currently have or "socialism". Always say how unhappy Canadians are with their system, etc. etc. This wouldn't bother me as much if it were merely the corporations and the management and shareholders making much money off of the current system, that would be expected. BUT, it's always the so-called "average guy joe six pack" who has one foot in the unemployment office and the other in the bankruptcy court advocating to keep the status quo. It would be funny if it weren't so inane.
The fact is, we need a single payer system that provides for ALL preventive medical needs (annual checkups, children immunizations, etc.) all catastrophic illnesses and even free rehab for drug and alcohol users who wish to seek help. a small co-pay to visit a doctor and controls on the outrageous cost of medications.
All this is bad news for HMO's who make BILLIONS on how things are. Oh well, in consolation they could provide luxury insurance, for folks who want the single room, the extra plastic surgery that you might want to go with an injury you get, or the 96 box of crayola crayons , etc., etc.
But that's me talking. As we all know, sharing Crayola Crayons is a form of socialism (especially RED crayons)!
President Barack Obama summoned allies, skeptics and health care figures of all stripes to the White House to begin to tackle the issue (story here). I pray him well for starting to do something that should have been done a LOONNGG time ago...jus saying...
"Always say how unhappy Canadians are with their system, etc. etc."
This is a huge pet peeve of mine. I know people in Canada and the UK who swear by their health care systems.
The right loves to trot out sob stories about people who die waiting six months for a brain transplant or whatever. But I fail to see how that's any worse than all the Americans who die because they can't afford any health care at all.

Why is healthcare a federal issue? What does this have to do with the common defense?
I think that healthcare has gotten more expensive and lower quality as the federal government has gotten more involved.

@Randy:
“I think that healthcare has gotten more expensive and lower quality as the federal government has gotten more involved.”
Lolololololololololololololol!! You are joking I hope. Health care is more expensive because they have run amok the last 8 years under Bush and for 6 years under a republican congress. HMO’s and Pharmaceutical companies are almost worse than the Mafia and Drug dealers….still gangsters.
“Why is healthcare a federal issue? What does this have to do with the common defense?”
What, do we need the bubonic plague to make a comeback? Or some weird Avian flu? In this case TRULY an Ounce of Prevention beats a pound of cure…just saying…

DJBA, I recall when Clinton was in office, everyone blamed the rising healthcare costs on Reagan. Then health-care costs shot through the roof as Ms. Clinton tried to reform. Have you looked at the costs historically? What was the increase during the Bush years? How much during the Clinton years?
Exactly what "business" should the federal government choose to be in? I thought the outline was the constitution, but I don't see healthcare in there.
There are a LOT of admirable goals for the government. Universal healthcare sounds good. But I don't think it's something the Feds should be involved in.
