The President was clear, concise and very cordial in outlining priorities and methods to acheive these goals. Healthcare, Energy, Education and Veterans benefits are top priorities. It always amazed me that under the Bush / Cheney the Right always claimed to "support the troops" but always balked at benefits increases for veterans of these current wars or even pay raises.
I am glad that the President addressed the issues clearly and head on. And honestly, he did give som....."hope". Yep, that is one four letter word that worries the hell out of the Right. Giving the poor hope, giving the middle class hope, the Right seems to hate that for some odd reason.
What will the Right have to say? Gov. Jindal in Louisiana is doing the silly posturing this time for the GOP. A Governor claiming he will reject federal money that would immensly help his poverty stricken state is utterly inane.
DJBA~President Obama promised last night to help the banks to help the people, pay for college for all young americans, develop clean coal energy sources, and cure cancer and slash the federal deficit. In just one month in office he is tripled what Bush spent in eight years!
The right has no problem helping the poor. The right has a problem with fiscally irresponsiblity on a federal level.
Bobby Jindal's rebuttal last night was utterly embarrasing...but can you consider the possibility that some Governor's don't want the money because they don't want to see their states go bankrupt. That money will have to be paid back with interest you know.

It's always easier (and cheaper) to break something then to FIX it.

Yo D.j.,
Can u explain to me what that Gov. was talking about?
It was like he wrote that watered down speech 2 weeks before the speech he was supposed to be rebutting. I swear I don't understand Republicans.

I've heard that alot of states don't want any money from the gov't. I can see thier points that the money would have to be repaid sooner or later. But with the schools in decline and not getting any help from their local gov'ts how can they say they don't need the money.

@CBW:
Yes, Obama has spent a great deal. But the reasoning is that by creating jobs, giving a bigger tax cut to the middle class while raising taxes on the upper class, and rewarding corporations that employ Americans, the middle class will have more money in their pockets, which means more money circulating at the ground level instead of just between CEOs, which, we hope, will bolster the economy. It's not just throwing away money willy-nilly ("wasteful spending"); it's an investment. Personally, I find this much preferable to John McCain's plan, which was to just cut all non-military spending and hope the economy takes care of itself.
