Man, talk about your words coming back to bite you on the arse.
I am a KRS One fan for the most part, though I still say RAKIM Is number one, but that’s a different discussion. Anyway, I am not sure if you all know what the Blast Master said about 9/11. Here it goes:
“I was asked about why hiphop has not engaged the current situation more (meaning 9/11), my response was "because it does not affect us, or at least we don’t perceive that it affects us, 9/11 happened to them". I went on to say that "I am speaking for the culture now; I am not speaking my personal opinion." I continued to say; "9/11 affected them down the block; the rich, the powerful those that are oppressing us as a culture. Sony, RCA or BMG, Universal, the radio stations, Clear Channel, Viacom with BET and MTV, those are our oppressors, those are the people that we're trying to overcome in hiphop everyday, this is a daily thing. We cheered when 9/11 happened in New York and say that proudly here. Because when we were down at the trade center we were getting hit over the head by cops, told that we can’t come in this building, hustled down to the train station because of the way we dressed and talked, and so on, we were racially profiled. So, when the planes hit the building we were like, "mmmm, justice." And just as I began to say "now of course a lot of our friends and family were lost there as well" but I was interrupted...”

O.K., before I go any further, let’s marinate on that for a second. Bottom line, inane. 9/11 affected everyone in this country in one way or another. That being said, at base, a few thousand people doing their jobs like a lot of other people do all over the US Lost their lives because, bottom line, some arseholes decided to crash planes into buildings and the arseholes killed alot of people. These people were Black, White, Conservative, Liberal, Christian, Muslim or Atheist. Doing the same thing many people in Chicago, LA, DC, etc., etc do, working their jobs. Dare I say, some of these people probably listened to Hip Hop, hell, some might have owned one of KRS One’s cd’s. I understand that Kris was trying to point out hypocrisy in the corporate world, racism, elitism, etc., etc., but his analogies fell short and the comment was seen as insensitive and just mean, and his qualification of the previous statement was worse.
I have heard the Blast Master try to qualify this statement a few times, each time only makes it worse and worse. Kris, word of advice, next time, just say the statement was wrong, I misspoke or just didn’t mean it how it came out. Nonetheless it was too late for your Hannity and Combs appearance.
Here is a link to his interview: http://www.rawkus.com/content/?p=651
Now, Kris was on to talk about Imus, and though I disagreed with some of his assertions, overall I felt he was getting his point across intelleigently, but then Hannity hit him with that dumb trife he said about 9/11, at which point, aside from people in the Hip Hop community who see no wrong in the “teacher's” words, KRS One looked like a raving buffoon.
Blastmaster, you neutered yourself with that comment, and Hannity had you by the balls because of it. You could have shut him down by saying that the comment was wrong, a bad attempt at an analogy, but no, you kept equivocating.
I love the Blast master, but this is an example of your words coming back to haunt you. He was neutralized and vilified BY HIS OWN WORDS. Just like Malcolm’s comment about JFK, Kris’s comment about 9/11 went tooo far to make an analogy. Now, when he could have added relevant insight to a social topic beyond Hip Hop, he was neutered. I don’t blame Hannity, I blame Kris. Moral of the story: “Think before you speak” Now, can Fox news ever invite ME on, trust me, I know when to hold them and when to fold them.
That's why they won't invite you. Where's the fun in someone who's not a loose cannon?

Man...it's the "We cheered when 9/11 happened in New York and say that proudly here" part that really makes me cringe.

@Thom:
Exactly, there really is no way to qualify that statement.

Kris screwed up. Like you BA, I know where he was trying to go but he didn't quite make it. I wasn't able to view the vid @ Rawkus, but I'm in agreement that he should've just admitted he made a mistake. It was stupid, thoughtless and inconsiderate. Nonetheless, KRS-ONE rules as he is one of the most prolific MC's of all time. He just needs to be more selective when discussing such delicate matters.
