    I Believe

I have my mansion now, Oh
    I Believe, I Believe, I Believe
I'll have me mansion now, Oh
I Believe, I believe just what he said

I'll do all things through Christ, Oh
    I Believe, I Believe, I Believe
I'll do all things through Christ, Oh
I Believe, I believe just what he said

He shall supply my need, Oh
    I Believe, I Believe, I Believe
He shall supply my need, Oh
I Believe, I believe just what he said

    BRIDGE I:

By faith I believe it, By faith I receive it
By faith I can have it, By faith I can share it
I believe just what he said

I have my mansion now, Oh
    I Believe, I Believe, I Believe
I'll have me mansion now, Oh
I Believe, I believe just what he said

He worked it out for me, Oh
    I Believe, I Believe, I Believe
He worked it out for me, Oh
I Believe, I believe just what he said

    Bridge II:

By faith I will know it, By faith I will show it
By faith I will bare it, and now I'll declare
I believe just what he said

I have my mansion now, Oh
    I Believe, I Believe, I Believe
I'll have me mansion now, Oh
I Believe, I believe just what he said

    I Believe, I Believe
    I Believe, I Believe, I Believe
    I Believe, I Believe
I Believe, I believe just what he said

He loosed the guilty stain, Oh
    I Believe, I Believe, I Believe
He loosed the guilty stain, Oh
I Believe, I Believe just what he said

Yo man...Im' with you. There are plenty of other pastors that could do the job well...besides Warren. But...oh well.

President Elect Obama has a definite problem. He courted Rick Warren and his followers during the election, now he has to live with them. He pushed his Christianity (admittedly a counterpush against those who said he was Muslim) in order to get votes.

Now that he's asked Warren to pray at his inauguration, he can't un-ask him without offending a lot of the evangelicals that voted for him. Warren is staying true to his faith and not swaying.

The new president will face tougher battles, but this proves that you have to be careful what you wish for. He asked for Warren's support, now he has it.

Geez, he couldn't have gotten someone a little less hateful and more apolitical, like Billy Graham?

I am with you on this 110%. All this does for me is highlight how depressingly centrist and theocratic Obama really is.

@Will:

Centrist? Yes. Theocrat? Hardly, more like "theo-pimp", to a lesser extant than GW. Fact is YOU probobly as an atheist care more about what God thinks than any of the politicians. They pimp people who allow themselves to be maniplayed by their "religion", simple as that...

"Fact is YOU probobly as an atheist care more about what God thinks than any of the politicians."

I'm not sure what you mean by that... I don't concern myself what God thinks any more than I concern myself with what Atticus Finch thinks. (And honestly I'm more an apatheist than an atheist nowadays, but that's beside the point.)

Anyway, in my defense, I had been awake for about five minutes when I wrote that. ;P All I meant is that, as a believer in secular government, I'm concerned about whether and how much President-Elect Obama's religious beliefs shape his actions.

That said, I also realize that asking Pastor Warren to speak for him is motivated by politics, not religion. It bums me out that he'd alienate his base like this just to mollify his detractors, especially when there are less vitriolic Christian leaders out there.

(Oh, and... I know you don't concern yourself much with the holidays, but I'd like to wish you a merry Christmas nonetheless :D)

"I'm not sure what you mean by that... I don't concern myself what God thinks"....

The whole point exactly. I don't think "God" factors into what Barack thinks, religion might, but God, hardly...

"Geez, he couldn't have gotten someone a little less hateful . . ."

Please tell me that was meant tongue-in-cheek. I'm not a big fan of Warren but to call him "hateful" is beyond hyperbole. When we insist that disagreement = hate then rational dialogue is impossible.

P.S. Merry Christmas!

Apatheist? I like that.

Yes, Neil, I really meant to call him hateful. As someone who believes that homosexuality is not a choice but something completely natural, to me comparing a natural state of being to incest and pedophilia, which Warren has done, is naked bigotry. And I don't believe in rational dialog with bigots.

@LorMarie: I like it too. I realized after some deep thought that I was fed up with militant atheists who actively preach God's nonexistence and didn't want to associate with them, and even "agnostic" has philosophical implications that I don't want to take on.

@Will:

"Militant Atheist"....hmmm. I know the type. I did look up Apatheist I am concerned with one aspect, how can one not be concerned if God exist or NOT? The or NOT get, but if he DID exist, wouldn't that kind of...matter?

Pascal's Wager, amirite?

It's not that God's existence wouldn't matter, it's that I've seen so little in the world around me to convince me that he does and so much that would suggest the universe and everything in it would get along with or without a Supreme Being that I see no reason to even bother thinking about the subject.

There should be no discrimination for gay people.
