In short, a fellow Marine who was already discharged HONORABLY, was protesting the war in a uniform but absent of his rank insignias and name badge. After a picture of said protest gets around, the Marine Corps reviews his discharge and while not giving the guy a dishonorable discharge they change the status of his discharge to “other than honorable” (which generally gets upgraded to an honorable after a couple of years if I remember correctly). Bogus.
Yes, I do remember that we are not allowed to comment on politics or attend rallies, etc. while in uniform; however I didn’t know that applied to even when one is already discharged from active duty, not an active reservist but in the Inactive Ready Reserve? Even if it is, I believe it is a stretch to give this Marine, a veteran of the current war, a change in status so trivially. I think it is asinine.
