Yeah, Yeah, I’m hearing all this reports that this problem has quadrupled over the last 40 years. I agree exercise needs to be mandatory in schools, (Americans as a whole lead pretty sedentary lives and could ALL Exercise more), a good diet is also a good idea, but why is everyone neglecting the 300 pound gorilla in the middle room?
High Fructose CORN SYRUP!! From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_fructose_corn_syrup
“High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) refers to a group of corn syrups which have undergone enzymatic processing in order to increase their fructose content and are then mixed with pure corn syrup (100% glucose) to reach their final form.
The typical types of HFCS are: HFCS 90 (most commonly used in baked goods) which is approximately 90% fructose and 10% glucose; HFCS 55 (most commonly used in soft drinks) which is approximately 55% fructose and 45% glucose; and HFCS 42 (most commonly used in sports drinks) which is approximately 42% fructose and 58% glucose. HFCS is considered to be an unhealthy additive to foods. Increasingly, manufacturers are utilizing HFCS in a variety of foods such as breads, cereals, soft drinks, condiments, etc.”
This stuff is pumped into almost everything. I buy a sweetened tea, what’s in it? Tea, Water, High Fructose Corn Syrup? If I buy a supposedly “fat free” Catalina Dressing, and again High Fructose Corn Syrup?
Our children consume this stuff in almost everything; this wasn’t the case 40 years ago. Its hard to have a healthy diet with this unhealthy additive, so why aren’t we talking about this? Because it helps stretch food and is a cheaper sweetener than other more healthy alternatives, simple as that. Look at your labels folk, that's all I'm saying...
