One of my coworkers up and quit last Friday, he left a note on his computer keyboard and said he was leaving. No notice, just quit.
A few months back another of my coworkers quit, in a similar fashion. With co-worker #1 everyone was saying things like “I’m shocked”, “He seemed like a professional”, “He seemed like a nice guy”, etc., etc. With co-worker #2 no such shock.
From my observations with these individuals, they seemed to be about the same in attendance and general attitude, however, co-worker #2 was definitely beyond a doubt more professional in demeanor and much more efficient at his job (I say this as a former NCO in the Marine Corps and as having been a manager in the field of Corporate Banking). Co-worker #2 quit because he was paid less and doing considerably more in his position, co-worker #1 was definitely not as proficient and was on his way out the door.
The difference? Co-worker #1 was White, Co-worker #2 was Black. This made me think, I wasn’t surprised when either of them quit, so why was Co-worker #1 such a “shock”?
What do you all think?
